St. Pierre Woodworking – Why Woodmaster?

Bill St. Pierre is the craftsman and owner St. Pierre Woodworking & Sawmill in Floyd, VA where he takes raw wood materials and turns them into beautiful finished products: milling, drying, building, and selling his cutom furniture using his TimberKing and Woodmaster equipment. You’ve probably seen his video on our YouTube channel!

Why did I choose Woodmaster Tools?

Well, first of all, they’re made in America. My products are made in America – everything I build! Therefore, I think the tools that make my products should be made in America as well. The durability of these tools is great. They’re easy to work on, easy to get to, things as far as sandpaper or blades, like in the 718s.

On the Woodmaster 718 machines, you can actually change out the heads rather quickly. So all this consists of is actually just taking a belt off on this side, a couple of pulleys, taking the two cams out, and it lifts right out. We then put a different cam back in there and put whatever we want. The same goes for when you set up for a molding machine as well.

So changing out the blades is rather simple. The Woodmaster comes with different heads. It comes with a sanding head. The spiral cutter head is an option that I preferred, and it works really, really well.

It’s a one-man job, and it takes about five minutes to do.

Woodmaster 718 Maintenance

Now, the maintenance on the 718s is very minimal. Sometimes you want to add a little WD 40 in here where you’re pulling this out, checking your bearings every couple of hundred hours. As far as the belts, I’ve never replaced one. This machine’s probably got 500, 600 hours on it, and we haven’t done a thing to it.

Custom Molding Knives

One thing I like about Woodmaster is actually I have a lot of customers that will bring in moldings, and they’ll ask me if I can match the molding in an old Victorian or old home that they’re restoring. And by having the reclaimed wood that I deal with, I can actually take the piece of molding and send it back to Woodmaster.

They’ll make the knife to actually match that trim that they have perfectly. I mean, when I get it and run it through the machines and butt it up to it, it’s a perfect match. So that makes working with these tools that much easier.

Flexibility

Having that flexibility with these machines, to be able to do hundreds of different types of moldings and only take up this little bit of space in my shop is huge to me. If I was to buy a machine for everything that these two machines can do, it would fill this shop up completely. I wouldn’t have any room to work.

Therefore, I love Woodmaster Tools.
