Living the Dream — Thanks, Woodmaster

Floyd’s son, Chris, has run “what seems like miles of lumber” through their Woodmaster Planer
“Our family company, BrenCo Sawmill & Woodworking, started as a dream. I grew up in the construction field and always had strong a desire to create things from the tree to finished furniture.
Floyd compares his 3 Woodmasters
Woodmasters are 4-in-1 woodworking machines. Any model can be set up as a planer, molder, drum sander, or gang ripsaw. We have three Woodmasters and each one’s set up to perform a different function. This eliminates change-overs and saves me a great deal of time, especially on our bigger jobs.
I like the way Woodmasters are built. They’re solid, farm-grade, heavy-duty, industrial-strength machines. I bought my TimberKing first and since Woodmaster and TimberKing are sister companies, I believed their planers would be the same quality as their sawmill.
Floyd’s 3 machines, 3 dedicated setups
Smallest – We use our smallest Woodmaster, the 712, for drum-sanding tongue and groove lumber. It gives us extremely consistent thickness on each board.
Medium – We have our mid-size Woodmaster, the 718, set up as a molder. Molding knives are very easy to install and the molding it turns out is smooth and consistent. (Note: 18″ 718 has been upgraded to 21″ 721)

The Brennans present a handsome ‘river table’ to a happy customer. Chris (left) and Floyd (center) have created a thriving woodworking business with Woodmaster and TimberKing equipment.
Largest – And our biggest Woodmaster, the 725, we use for planing. It is a workhorse! We’ve run what seems like miles and miles of boards through it. It always remains consistent and the machine doesn’t bog down!
Built to last, excellent customer service, too
Woodmaster equipment is built to last. It’s easy to work on and the company provides excellent customer service. That’s hard to find these days! Calling customer service has provided me with the help needed to keep my machines operational and for that I’m grateful.
Thank you for building dependable equipment that’s well made, and exceptional customer service. These characteristics really stand out in today’s market.
2 TimberKing sawmills
We also have two TimberKing sawmills, a 1220 and a 2200. (Now upgraded to 2220) I knew from my research that TimberKing built a solid mill. We have a solar kiln, too, that I built myself.

If you can picture it, Floyd can build it
If a customer can bring me a picture of what they want, we can build it. We have created custom tables, cabinets, live edge river tables, kitchen countertops, shiplap log cabin siding, tongue and groove siding and flooring, custom doors home decor products, and much more. Our best-selling products are custom cabinets, tables, and doors.
Custom molding for historic restoration
Besides all kinds of home goods, we’ve also created replica custom molding and siding on some historic buildings in Polk County. One was an original one-room schoolhouse built in 1878. The County could not find anyone to reproduce the siding – but thanks to my Woodmaster equipment, we were able to get the job done – and considered it an honor to help preserve such a historical landmark in our area.

Floyd salvaged 100-year-old wood from this historic home’s rehabilitation, turning it into this striking vanity. Note the grain pattern is carried across the drawer faces. That’s craftsmanship!

Repeat Customers are best
We do business mostly in central Florida but we’ve shipped home decor products to other states, too. Most of our business is word of mouth. The only advertising we do is on Instagram. We have all kinds of customers including interior decorators, construction companies, and regular homeowners. Our BEST customers are repeat customers. It’s such an honor to have customers come back for more of our work.
How to start a custom woodworking business like Floyd’s
If others are interested in doing what we do at BrenCo Sawmill and Woodworking, my advice is to invest in the time it takes to educate yourself through resources available online. And by reaching out to other sawyers and woodworkers and asking questions. They have a wealth of information and everyone I’ve reached out to has been very helpful. It’s nice too, when it comes full circle, and now I have folks calling me asking questions – and I am glad to help.

The Woodmaster Planer’s Spiral Cutterhead (optional) has dozens and dozens of 4-faced carbon steel heads. Runs true, runs quiet, creates a super-smooth surface
(Editor’s note: Floyd tells us he’s glad to chat with others about starting a sawing and woodworking business. Call Woodmaster and we’ll give you Floyd’s contact info.)
We’ll finally build our log home ourselves with Woodmaster and TimberKing
Our plan for the future is to finally get to build a 40-year dream of ours – our log cabin home. We plan to build the cabin the majority of the day and do milling on the side. Then, after the build is complete, I will get back to milling and woodworking full-time.
We are very grateful to have the TimberKing and Woodmaster equipment to make it possible to build our log home ourselves. I would say that they’ve really been an answer to prayer.”
