BACK RELIEF FOR TRIM MOLD
Product Number: BACK RELIEF TRIM
Product Description: Back relief is milled into certain moldings to create a better fit over irregular surfaces. Reliving the stock allows the wood to flex, therefore nailing to irregular surfaces is easier for the installer.
The rule of thumb for sizing back relief knives is the relief knife should be approximately ½ of the moldings width. Example a 3 inch wide casing will need a 1-1/2 back relief knife (Order Number CK37015)
Milling back relief is always the first step of the process and is accomplished in one pass thru your machine using the proper size back relief knife. To finish the job and create the profile, a profile knife is used running the relived piece a second time.
If you are running knives in the planner head, special gibs are not supplied to hold back relief knives in position because these knives are the same thickness as the planer blades. The gibs that are supplied in your Woodmaster planer head are used. If you have purchased a extra planer head for the purpose of just running molding knives you need to purchase an optional balance kit (Order Number BALKITS $20.00) when ordering back relief knives.
When running back relief knives 3-1/4 inch wide or less and using them in the Woodmaster 700C single knife holder the knife supplied will be supplied with the proper gib balanced for the 700C single knife head.
